A festive, Irish-clad crowd made their way to The McGinnity Room last Friday night to kick of Spokane’s St. Patrick’s Day Season with the 2nd annual O’Danny Boy Bash. This annual event celebrates St. Patrick, the life of our inspiration Daniel T. McGinnity and the 1 year anniversary of The McGinnity Room. The upbeat, mood-setting music for the evening was provided by the legendary Cronkites. Their versatility and energy kept the crowd rocking across the decades all night long! Irish-themed cocktails and an array of exceptional savory and sweet foods were served throughout the evening. A talented pair of stilt-walkers had things looking up for everyone, while the wandering Bagpiper made for some great photo opps.
Most important, our live action raised $3,000 for Spokane’s Second Harvest hunger-relief network. Second Harvest distributes over 2 million pounds of free food each month to help people in need in 26 counties in Eastern Washington and North Idaho.
Special thanks to Tim O’Doherty for serving as emcee and all our honored guests (that’s all of you!) who joined us for an event that is and will always be very special to us.
Over the next few weeks, Spokane will continue to “get its green” on with celebrations, a fabulous parade, live music, delicious Irish fare and adult beverages shared with good friends. In short – Spokane is a great place to celebrate St. Patrick! Here’s our suggestions for going green in Spokane this year – enjoy!
Get ready for Spokane’s 40th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 17, 2018, sponsored by The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. According to the groups Facebook page, “Regardless of race, creed or color, everyone has just that wee bit of Irish that comes out in full spirit, whether you’re a dyed-in-the-wool Irish person or just Irish-for-the-day, this is one event you won’t want to miss.” http://www.friendlysonsofstpatrick.com/
You don’t have to wait for St. Patrick’s Day to enjoy authentic Irish comfort food and a “pint or three” of Guinness at O’Doherty’s, an amazing pub that brings rich Irish drink and food traditions to downtown Spokane. O’Doherty’s offers everything from Tullamore Dew whiskey steak and Guinness fish and chips to Irish stew, shepherd’s pie, and more. Here’s hoping you’re just lucky enough to be there when a jolly patron stands on the bar and sings for the honor of sticking a dollar to the ceiling!
(Warning, not for the faint of heart, but sounds like a wee bit of fun!): The Irish Drinking Team is an all-day, St. Patrick’s Parade Day Pub Crawl on Saturday, March 17 that kicks off at 7 am, then winds its way through selected bars and pubs in downtown Spokane. Want to join? Just buy a jersey on their website and you’re in. You can drop in or out and join the group any time.
Republic Brew will serve up a traditional Irish Dinner from 4 to 8 pm on Saturday, March 17. Last year’s menu included corned beef, colcannon, soda bread and apple barley pudding. Then stick around for a live performance by LazyLove, a talented local group that performs jazz, blues, rock, folk, Americana, and more. Reservations STRONGLY recommended.
